Normal People On Netflix – Why A Second Season Is Unlikely
The popular series, Normal People is now available to watch on Netflix. A 12-episode series that is based on the best-selling novel by Sally Rooney, under the same name.
About Normal People
Based in Ireland, the story focuses on Marianne Sheridan (Daisy Edgar-Jones) and Connell Waldron (Paul Mescal).
Marianne comes from a wealthy upper-class background however she’s socially isolated. Suffering from a lack of love from her family.
Connell is popular and comes from a working-class background, raised by a single mother. Navigating his way through life he faces anxiety issues.
Capturing the portrayal of their complicated relationship that begins during their final days of secondary school.
Connell’s mum, Lorraine Waldron, works as a cleaner for the Sheridan family. Serving her role as a maternal figure that helps to guide both Connell and Marianne with her warm personality and loving nature.
Their story progresses through as they attend college, in Dublin.
Capturing their love, mental health, miscommunication and the overall challenges that the pair face as they navigate their way through adulthood.
Exploring trauma and the intensity that comes with true love.
Beautiful yet complex.
Will There Be A Second Season Of Normal People?
There have been a lot of talks and rumours about a potential second season of Normal People however, at this stage, it does seem unlikely.
The show is of course based on the single novel, written by Sally Rooney. There is no sequel and no available material for a second season to be based upon.
Despite this, the show producer and director, Lenny Abrahamson, has expressed an interest by saying that they (the team) “may down the line” revisit the characters of Connell and Marianne.
Whilst many fans do want to revisit the characters and see what happens between the pair, others believe the show is a complete story.
In our mind, we’d like to think they’re together, living their happily ever after.
